Art Journey
I am an Australian Artist.
The soft blue-grey distance and colours of the Australian landscape and atmosphere challenge me to create artwork that conveys Australia’s unique light. A land of extreme contrasts, I also aspire to share its harsh colourful beauty and its history. I enjoy creating works that show space and distance or tell a story of serenity, relationships, freedom or exploration. My work is traditional in style using oil on board or canvas. I also enjoy creating florals and beach scenes in pastel or oils and working with graphite or pen to create detailed works. I am keen to capture old buildings and structures that are at risk of being lost forever to time.
Experienced in the use of Oils, Pastel, graphite, pen, coloured pencils and acrylics, my early works were commissions of historic buildings and other rural subjects.
While living in the Central Burnett I served as an Art Steward for the Mundubbera Show Society for many years and was a member of the Regional Arts Development Fund Committee. Awarded the Australia Day Senior Cultural Award -Mundubbera Shire. Encouraged by prizes at numerous regional shows for Acrylics, oils, pastels and penwork, as well as requests for commissions, I continued to paint in different media, and my work has been acquired by Shire Councils, City Councils and Regional Government Departments as well as by private collectors nationally.
Selected multiple times as an Exhibiting Finalist Lethbridge Landscape Prize, Rotary Art Brisbane, The Doyles Gold Coast and Camberwell Melbourne. Regular exhibitor at Downlands Art Show during the Carnival of Flowers Toowoomba Qld Australia.
Recent works are landscapes, seascapes and beach scenes using Oils or Soft Pastels, with an interest in figure studies and fine pen detail work. Commissions are accepted. If you have a favourite photo of a time or place that you would like me to use as a reference to produce an artwork, please contact me.
With other local artists I opened the Margaret Street Gallery Toowoomba during 2024. Any enquiries please contact me at amurphy.art@gmail.com.
I will be doing art workshops in pastels or oils in the Toowoomba area in 2026. Watch this space for further information, or follow my Facebook Artist Page.
